Positions are aggregated from ADS-B ground receivers and satellite feeds, typically refreshed every 5 seconds while a flight is over land and every few minutes over ocean.
Aircraft flying over remote ocean or polar routes can briefly drop out of ADS-B coverage between satellite updates. The last known position and heading are shown until the signal returns.
